Memory Verse: Luke 11:28
He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
Hello everyone! Today there is a weekend special! Today we will be focusing obedience today! Give me feedback on the weekend special. The weekend special is a new segment that has been added to Sammie’s Daily Dose. The weekend special would run every Saturday and would be separate from the main series run during the week. These would be messages that God wants me to share. It may or may not be from the Bible chapter focused on during the week. Enjoy today’s special...
Let’s begin with a mini guessing game? What character trait directly comes with obedience? Hmm... that’s interesting, right! Are you done now? Did you get it? Yup! The answer is HUMILITY. These two go hand in hand. When you are obedient, it teaches you how to be humble.
Let’s look at this scenario. Your parents have asked you to do something. The thing that they want you to do is rather the opposite. You would have to humble yourself and respectfully carry out their instructions. The classic example that comes to mind is washing of dishes... lol. Imagine one night, you are so tired and sleepy or you are about to watch a movie, then your parents call for you. They then ask you to wash the dishes. Argh! So annoying! I know. This usually happens to me. Lol! I begin to shrug and complain about how unfair it is and all. But once I make the decision to obey them, I have humbled myself. Hmm… Through this scenario, there are two things that are highlighted;
The decision to obey.
Humility that comes with obedience.
Praise God!
The more and more God leads me to write every day, the more and more is see how God is not a forceful person. Everything in the walk with Christ is a decision. But He makes everything available to us to make sure that we make the decision to follow Him. What a great God we serve! Can any human compare? No. His level of wisdom and understanding is unfathomable. Do you know anyone who has shown this level of wisdom? Wow. Are you not amazed with our God? If you serve such a wise God, why do you fret and worry about your situation? He has carefully thought through whatever you are going through. Hallelujah!
Lol! Let’s go back to the message at hand. Obedience! Obedience is one of the most difficult things to do. Sometimes, we think that when we obey we have lost a mini battle or that you feel beat down. That should not be the case. Obeying shows how mature and mature you are. Obeying God is always rewarded. Did you know that? God blesses you when you obey. There are so many beautiful verses that talks about obedience and blessings. Let’s look at a few:
Exodusn19:5- Now if you obey me fully and keep me covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole world is mine, Amen.
Wow. Can you see that? God has promised us that if we obey Him, he will make us his treasured possession. Isn’t that beautiful? As for me I want to be God’s treasured possession oo. Don’t you?
Ephesians 6:1-3. (This verse will entice you to wash all the dishes at home when asked. Lol.) Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honour your father and mother”- which is the first commandment with a promise- “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” Look at this! This is the first commandment God made with a promise. Can you see how important God takes obedience? This is because obedience is very difficult.
The next verse is from Revelations chapter 14 and verse 12, this verse tells us how difficult it can be for humans to obey. The verse says “This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus.” Hallelujah! Look at the words given to us, PATIENCE and ENDURANCE. Wow! That’s what you need to be obedience Patience and Endurance. This very true. You need Patience to make the choice to obey and you need Endurance to carry out the task that requires obedience. Amen! I am amazed at how detailed our God is. He indeed is an all-knowing God! Wow! Hallelujah!
In the whole of Ruth chapter 2, we see that Ruth was very obedient. Everything her mother-in-law told her to do. She did it. The book of Ruth is a very beautiful book. This is because this is the only book of the Bible that doesn’t talk about God or how God spoke to someone or how God did this or that. This book shows of all the things we must do and follow as Christians to see God’s manifestation on our lives. That includes obedience. This book makes it very evident how our relationship with God is a two-way thing. He expects us to practice some principles and He will do His part to bless us. Hallelujah!
